What is BMI?

Fitness BMI Body weight Weight Loss Lose Weight Overweight Underweight Obese Exercise

The body mass index, or BMI, is used as a method of determining if the weight of an individual is in a healthy proportion with their height. The measurement is done by taking a person’s weight in kg and dividing that by the square of one’s height in meters (kg/m²).

  • Underweight: Less than 18.5
  • Overweight: between 18.5 and 24.9
  • Overweight: A BMI of 25 to 29.9
  • Obesity: BMI of 30 or Higher

Generally, BMI serves as an indicator of health risks. It divides people into four categories: underweight, normal weight, overweight, and obese, by which one could determine any metabolic risks-for example, heart disease or diabetes.
